What's good about you?

There's something good about you, even if you can't readily identify what it is. Your most helpful trait might not even be THAT trait that came to mind--or the one that you are most confident of. My thought for this post: which of your personality traits has been most helpful to you in your life thus far?

You might have noticed that I'm pretty self-aware. I've taken various personality tests. I think about who I am and why I am the way I am. But the one trait that I think has probably been most helpful to me in life (thus far) is also a trait that has caused me the most regret and pain. I am rather slow to react emotionally--I can be oblivious to my own needs (9 wing 1 for the win!). And while that has put me in a lot of bad situations and caused me to make many pain-filled realizations, being oblivious has allowed me to make decisions based on ideals.

Because I have been oblivious to my own pain and to my own needs at various times, I've been able to put aside my self and take actions that I would not have been able to take if my own needs were in the forefront of my mind. That has allowed me to become stronger (because I've had to get back up after falling down a whole lot) as well as allowed me to not be afraid to love people. Loving people isn't easy, as we all know. But it's even harder when we're afraid of getting hurt. So, strangely, this trait of mine that seems very negative and that I KNOW has caused several events I regret has also allowed me to (strive to)/become the person I want to be: someone who loves without fear of consequence.
