*Gasping face* It's been so long since I posted!

#DVPit has a practice session two weeks before the event, called #PreDV>>and that was yesterday!

Did you participate? I did! It was a really great experience, so I recommend you put it on your calendar for the Fall #DVPit. The feedback I received was all helpful; first of all, I realized that Twitter pitch contests don't want your interesting, cool pitches, Twitter wants informative pitches.

That was pretty frustrating. Basically, no matter how interesting your pitch is, it's not right unless it contains STAKES. And, of course, that is a really smart and accurate assessment of what a pitch should contain.

The other aspect I failed to fully consider was HASHTAGS~~ #PreDV requires the use of a few more characters because #PreDV is a one-day event that requires you specify whether your work is YA or Adult, but #DVPit has two separates days for the genres. And then, of course, agents want to know why your work is unique. My hashtags need to take up at least 20 characters (#DVPit, #F, #Own, #Dis). That's a lot of characters when you only get 280!

But, the event was a success :) I made some Twitter friends and got solid feedback on my pitches. Also, the night ended with even greater progress because I FINALLY came up with a comp for my book! I had been stumped on what comp to use for so long, but I finally considered using movies instead of books. My book works so much better with movies! Once I get my pitch (w/comp) nailed down, I'll post it.

I've been spending so much time trying to cover all the steps necessary to get my book (self-)published, and one of the most time-consuming has been preparing image/storyboards for my illustration artist to do the drawings. Here's the dragon I've designed. I"m excited; I hadn't found any already existing dragons that fit what I was imagining, so I had to make one.
